Sundance Story

The Sundance Workshop and eventually the Sundance Film Festival emerged from the very landscape that shapes today. For those who seek refuge in Timpanogos beauty, whether through a simple glance up at its splendor or a trek through its grandeur, and for those who find themselves embraced by the mountain and discover its peaks, there is a spiritual renewal of heart, mind and soul.

When I completed my teacher training with Jimmy Barkan, I could not wait to teach a class. To my disappointment, Jimmy left the country a few days later and instructed the staff that he wanted to wait until his return from China to let any of the new people teach. I decided to "renew and restore" with a trip to Utah to visit my extended family and spend a week on my own at Sundance. I signed up for the morning yoga class and shortly after our group was assembled at the spa, we learned the teacher was unable to get through the snow from Salt Lake City. The class needed to be canceled. I raised my hand and let the Spa director know I was recently certified and would be happy to teach a one hour Barkan series. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship with Sundance! The following year and each year I visited, I was invited to teach morning yoga in the Tree Room Library where I met another yoga teacher. She joined me at Sundance as a guest teacher when I began my Annual Retreats for three years in a row and we have formed a beautiful friendship that has found us in reunion at Duke Integrative Medicine, North Carolina, Kansas City, Missouri and Naples, Florida as well as here in Fort Lauderdale.

Through the years I have invited guest teachers to join me at Sundance and each year something magical happens as a result. I am pleased that Robin Revier, new graduate of the Barkan Method 2015 class, will be joining me as a guest teacher for my Annual Labor Day Retreat this Labor Day!
